Gulmarg, February 20: The Chinar Open Winter Games 2026, a flagship initiative of the Indian Army, concluded on Thursday amid the snow covered slopes of Gulmarg. Organised by the Dagger Division under Chinar Corps, the event celebrated sportsmanship, youth engagement and community spirit.
A record 660 participants competed across eight winter sports events, including 166 girls and 494 boys, marking a notable rise in both overall and women participation. The competitions featured skiing races, snowboarding contests and skating performances, drawing enthusiastic crowds of locals and tourists.
The event was graced by Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Northern Command, who interacted with players and organisers. He praised the high standard of competition and described the Games as a constructive platform for channelising the aspirations of Kashmir’s youth towards positive nation building efforts.
The successful conclusion of the Games highlighted the growing sports culture in Kashmir and reinforced Gulmarg’s emergence as a leading winter sports destination in the country.
