Vice President addresses Convocation Ceremony of Kashmir University

The Education Minister and the Vice Chancellor are women, while the majority of the gold medalists are also women

The Vice President of India, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, addressed the 21st Convocation of Kashmir University in Srinagar as the Chief Guest. This was his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir as Vice President.

While congratulating the graduating students, he said that the true identity of universities is in the character and services of their graduates. Appreciating the educational legacy of Kashmir University established in 1948, NAACA A++ grade, 34th rank in NIRF, over 7,700 research publications and initiatives like National Himalayan Ice Core Laboratory, he termed it as an emerging institution on a global scale.

He expressed happiness that both the Education Minister and the Vice Chancellor are women, while the majority of the gold medalists are also women, which he termed as a symbol of women empowerment.

Exhorting the students to adapt to the demands of the changing world, learn new skills and embrace innovation, he stressed on playing a role in the vision of Developed India 2047. Referring to the ongoing development projects in the region under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, such as the expansion of Srinagar Airport and the Chenab Rail Bridge, he said that these initiatives are creating new opportunities.

He stressed the importance of national unity and advised the youth to stay away from drugs and use social media responsibly. At the end of his address, he said:
“This is neither my Kashmir, nor your Kashmir — this is Kashmir for all of us.”
