Srinagar/The authorities have decided that the precautionary restrictions imposed in Kashmir will be lifted from Saturday, while high-speed mobile internet and prepaid mobile calling services were also restored across the valley on Friday evening.
According to details, the decision to lift the restrictions was taken after reviewing the situation after Friday prayers.
A senior official said that “these restrictions were merely precautionary in nature so that the situation remains under control. After reviewing the ground situation after Friday prayers, it has been decided that these restrictions will not continue from Saturday.”
He said that the situation in Kashmir remained peaceful overall and no untoward incident was reported from any district.
It is noteworthy that precautionary restrictions were imposed in different parts of Kashmir earlier this week after processions and rallies. These demonstrations were held after the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei in US and Israeli attacks.
After these incidents, security forces maintained strict vigil in sensitive areas of the valley, especially in downtown Srinagar, to avoid any untoward incident.
As a precautionary measure, the authorities had restricted mobile internet speed to 2G and prepaid mobile calling services were also suspended across Kashmir.
Earlier in the day, Jammu and Kashmir Police Director General Nalin Barbhat, along with Inspector General of Police Kashmir, DIG Central Kashmir, SSP Srinagar and other officers, visited downtown Srinagar and reviewed the security situation.
The officers inspected the security arrangements in sensitive areas of the city and reviewed the deployment of police and security personnel.
During the visit, the DGP and IGP interacted with the officers present on the spot and directed that peaceful conduct of religious activities should be ensured while ensuring the movement of people.
Meanwhile, Srinagar Police has appealed to media houses, social media users and the public to be responsible while sharing or publishing information related to the current situation.
According to a police spokesperson, people should refrain from spreading unconfirmed news, speculation and rumours and verify it from reliable sources before disseminating information.
Authorities have warned that spreading false or misleading information can cause panic among the public, disrupt public order and harm communal harmony.
According to the police, action will be taken against individuals or groups involved in spreading false or misleading information in accordance with the law.
