The Thai-flagged cargo ship Mayuree Naree, which was heading to Gujarat, was hit by unidentified shells in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, causing the ship to catch fire. Twenty crew members were rescued while three people remained on board. The incident took place about 11 nautical miles north of the coast of Oman.

India’s external affairs ministry condemned the attack on the Thai ship, saying that targeting commercial vessels in the ongoing West Asian conflict was unacceptable. Officials also confirmed that the Mayuree Naree was not the only ship affected.

Condemnation of India

India has strongly condemned the attack on a Thai ship in the Strait of Hormuz, which was en route to the Kandla port in Gujarat.

In a statement, the government said it strongly condemns the targeting of commercial vessels in the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

India pointed out that in the early stages of the conflict, many precious lives were lost in such attacks, including Indian citizens.

The government also expressed concern that the intensity and lethality of these attacks appeared to be increasing, posing serious threats to maritime security and global trade routes.
