17 Crore Voters to participate in Five States Assembly Elections

With the announcement of the election schedule, the model code of conduct has come into force in the respective states.

The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and West Bengal.

Chief Election Commissioner Gianish Kumar said during a press conference in New Delhi that voting in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry will be held on April 9 and in Tamil Nadu on April 23.

Voting in West Bengal will be held in two phases on April 23 and 29. In the first phase, polling will be held in 152 assembly constituencies and in the second phase, 142.

The counting of votes in all five states and union territories will be done on May 4.

He said that with the announcement of the election schedule, the model code of conduct has come into force in the respective states.

About 17 crore voters will participate in these elections and more than two lakh polling stations will be set up. According to the Election Commission, basic facilities will be provided at each polling station and 100 percent webcasting will be ensured for monitoring.
