Monday June 1, 2026  – With barely a month to go before this year’s Amarnath Yatra gets underway, senior civil and security officials staged a comprehensive ground review across multiple districts on Monday, signalling that preparations are now entering high gear. Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and IGP Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti personally inspected the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu, assessing arrangements for RFID registration, accommodation, sanitation, healthcare, and pilgrimage security.

The 57-day pilgrimage — the longest edition in recent years — is scheduled to begin July 3 from the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam track in Anantnag and the steeper 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal, concluding on August 28 to coincide with Raksha Bandhan. The Ministry of Home Affairs has greenlit a record deployment of 670 CAPF companies — up from 580 last year — with over one lakh security personnel to be positioned across the entire route from Lakhanpur to the holy cave shrine. All forces are expected to be in place by June 25, a full week before the pilgrimage begins. Notably, more than 3.5 lakh pilgrims have already registered since April 15, and officials believe final figures could comfortably exceed 5 lakh.
