June 3, 2026 – Jammu: In a pioneering move, the Jammu and Kashmir health department has launched a mass screening program for stomach cancer, a disease that has seen a rising incidence in the region. According to health officials, early detection is key, as stomach cancer often goes undiagnosed until advanced stages. The drive will cover both urban and rural populations, with specialized mobile clinics set up in key districts.

Dr. Rina Koul, leading the campaign, emphasized that the initiative is the first of its kind in the country. “We are bringing screening right to people’s doorsteps, ensuring accessibility,” she said. With cancer being a leading cause of death in the region, this drive aims to save lives through early intervention.
