Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday delivered a deeply resonant address to the global Kashmiri Pandit community at the “From Exile to Excellence” conclave in Srinagar, urging members of the displaced community to reconnect with their roots, invest in institutions, and actively participate in the transformation of Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking at the Global Kashmiri Pandit Conclave held at SKICC, Sinha said the gathering was a reflection of both the remarkable achievements of the community in the decades following their forced displacement and their enduring emotional bond with their ancestral homeland. “I see before me the sons and daughters of this soil. We are witnessing a historic moment in Srinagar,” the Lieutenant Governor said, setting a tone of homecoming and renewal that pervaded the proceedings.

The LG spoke candidly about the trauma of the 1990s migration — one of the most painful chapters in the post-independence history of Kashmir — when tens of thousands of Kashmiri Pandits were uprooted from their homes in the Valley amid violence and targeted persecution. Forced to rebuild their lives in Jammu, Delhi, and cities across India and abroad, the community navigated immense hardship while refusing, as Sinha acknowledged, to let adversity define its future trajectory.

“The easier path was despair, but you chose reconstruction, hard work and service. You transformed your struggle into strength and your pain into purpose,” Sinha said, articulating a narrative of resilience that has made the Kashmiri Pandit community’s story one of the most striking examples of displacement followed by global achievement in modern Indian history.

The LG also celebrated the community’s success in preserving its distinct cultural identity, language, and traditions despite decades of displacement — a feat he described as the community’s greatest achievement. He noted that Kashmiri Pandits have made distinguished contributions to education, administration, arts, literature, science, and public service across the country.

Sinha’s invitation to the community was unambiguous: build institutions in Jammu and Kashmir, nurture talent, and contribute actively to the Union Territory’s growth. “Your experience and knowledge are invaluable for the future of this land,” he said. The Lieutenant Governor characterised the current moment as one of renewed confidence in J&K’s security environment and developmental trajectory, making this an opportune time for the community to re-engage with its homeland.
