In a significant boost to agricultural and professional education in Jammu and Kashmir, the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) witnessed a record turnout for its Undergraduate Entrance Test (UET), even as higher education institutions across the country grapple with declining enrollment trends.
More than 17,000 aspirants appeared for the entrance examination held on Sunday for admission to 14 undergraduate programmes, competing for 900 available seats. The examination registered an impressive attendance rate of 94 percent, underscoring the growing confidence of students and parents in the University’s academic offerings and career-oriented approach.
The test was conducted smoothly across 20 examination centres, including 18 in Srinagar and two in Jammu, under extensive security and administrative arrangements.
University officials attributed the unprecedented response to SKUAST-K’s emphasis on innovation-driven, market-oriented curricula and its focus on preparing students for emerging opportunities in agriculture, allied sciences, entrepreneurship, industry and technology-based careers.
To ensure transparency, confidentiality and efficiency, the University implemented a comprehensive multi-layered examination management system. Strict security protocols were maintained at every stage, including paper setting, printing, transportation and distribution of examination materials.
The successful conduct of the examination was made possible through coordinated efforts of university officers, faculty members, centre coordinators, invigilation staff, police and civil administration.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, accompanied by senior university officials including the Registrar, Controller of Examinations and Director Education, visited several examination centres to review arrangements and monitor the process.
Reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and quality education, the University said the strong participation reflects SKUAST-K’s growing reputation as a preferred destination for students seeking future-ready education and meaningful career opportunities.
The remarkable response assumes greater significance at a time when many higher educational institutions across India are witnessing challenges in attracting students, highlighting SKUAST-K’s rising stature and relevance in the evolving educational landscape.
