SSP Srinagar Seek Public Cooperation for Peaceful Muharram Observances

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, on Wednesday appealed to all stakeholders and mourners to cooperate with the authorities to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of Muharram processions in the city.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 8th Muharram procession, the SSP said Srinagar Police have made elaborate security and traffic arrangements along the traditional route from Guru Bazar to Dalgate.

He said the police carried out extensive planning and coordination exercises ahead of the procession and monitored arrangements from the starting point to the culmination point to ensure smooth conduct of the event.

Dr. Chakravarthy said Srinagar Police worked in close coordination with other security agencies and deployed necessary resources at strategic locations along the route.

He added that surveillance measures, including aerial monitoring, were also put in place as part of the overall security grid.

The SSP said the 8th Muharram procession is being conducted peacefully and thanked mourners for their cooperation with the authorities.

Referring to the forthcoming 10th Muharram procession, he said Srinagar Police would put in place all necessary security, traffic and crowd-management arrangements to facilitate the event and ensure the safety of participants.

He reiterated the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and urged the public to continue extending cooperation during the remaining Muharram observances.
