The eighth day of the 3rd Chinar Book Festival at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre in Srinagar saw enthusiastic participation from students and visitors as the Institute of Cost Accountants of India, Srinagar Chapter, organised an interactive quiz competition on Saturday. The contest was designed to promote academic excellence, critical thinking and greater awareness of the cost and management accounting profession among students from various educational institutions across the region.
The quiz gave participants an opportunity to test their general knowledge while learning about the role of cost and management accounting in business, governance and organisational decision-making. Organisers said the initiative was structured to encourage analytical thinking among students and introduce them to career opportunities in a field that remains relatively underexplored among school and college-going youth in Kashmir.
Held under the theme “Milkar Padhenge, Milkar Badhenge” and accompanied by the campaign “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Books,” the festival has continued to draw strong participation from educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir since it began. Chief Convenor Dr. Amit Wanchoo said the festival has so far recorded participation from more than 5,500 schools, with an average daily footfall exceeding 32,000 students and visitors, figures that underline the scale the event has reached in its third edition.
Wanchoo said the festival has emerged as one of the region’s largest literary and educational platforms, fostering a culture of reading, learning and intellectual engagement among young people at a time when concerns about screen time and declining reading habits are frequently raised by educators. The event brings together book exhibitions, literary interactions, educational sessions, cultural programmes, competitions and awareness campaigns under one roof, creating space for students, educators, authors, publishers and general readers to interact.
Organisers said the festival will continue to host interactive events through its remaining days, aimed at encouraging reading habits, knowledge-sharing and education as pathways to personal growth and nation-building. The scale of participation this year has reinforced the festival’s standing as a fixture on Kashmir’s educational and cultural calendar, with organisers expressing hope that turnout will grow further in subsequent editions.
