Srinagar, Aug 4: The Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), headed by Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq, on Tuesday expressed serious concern over recent developments affecting Muslim students, particularly the reported demolition threat to Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur.
The MMU said reports of demolishing 38 of the university’s 40 buildings, where around 3,000 students are enrolled, have created widespread anxiety despite interim relief from the courts. It noted that several Kashmiri students studying at the university approached the Majlis, fearing for their academic future.
The organisation said any legal or administrative action against an institution should follow due process, but innocent students must not become victims of such disputes.
It also cited the closure of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence in Jammu, saying the disruption to students’ education, particularly after controversy over admissions of Muslim students, has deepened concerns within the community.
Emphasising that education must remain above politics, prejudice and communal considerations, the MMU urged authorities to protect students’ academic careers and ensure that no one is denied educational opportunities on the basis of religion or identity.
