A two day CPSE Level Vendor Development Programme aimed at integrating Jammu and Kashmir’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises into the country’s public procurement ecosystem concluded in Budgam, bringing together senior government officials, procurement heads of major central public sector enterprises and local industry leaders under one roof at the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology in Rangreth.
Organised by the Branch MSME Development and Facilitation Office, Srinagar, under the Union Ministry of MSME, the programme sought to promote effective implementation of the Public Procurement Policy for MSMEs while creating direct business opportunities for Kashmir’s entrepreneurs through structured interaction with major government departments and enterprises. The event served as a platform to simplify vendor registration processes, demystify public procurement procedures and encourage wider participation in Government e-Marketplace based tendering.
Representatives from major central public sector enterprises and institutions, including NHPC, Food Corporation of India, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Airports Authority of India, Central Reserve Police Force, Sashastra Seema Bal, Power Grid Corporation of India, the Government e-Marketplace and the Jammu and Kashmir Mineral Development Corporation, participated alongside senior officials from the Ministry of MSME and the Industries and Commerce Department.
The proceedings opened with a welcome address by Mohammed Tariq Ishtiaq, Assistant Director at MSME-DFO Srinagar, who outlined the programme’s objectives and stressed the importance of strengthening linkages between local MSMEs and central public sector enterprises through awareness building, formal vendor registration and structured procurement engagement.
Delivering the inaugural address as chief guest, Commissioner and Secretary of the Industries and Commerce Department Vikramjit Singh urged local entrepreneurs to make full use of the platform by engaging directly with procurement agencies and understanding their specific business requirements. He described the programme as a valuable opportunity for Kashmir’s MSMEs to understand tendering processes and build durable business relationships with central enterprises, encouraging participants to proactively leverage the Public Procurement Policy for MSMEs.
During his visit, Singh also toured the exhibition stalls set up as part of the programme, commending the innovation, quality and craftsmanship on display from local entrepreneurs. He noted that such initiatives would help weave Jammu and Kashmir’s MSME sector into national supply chains, opening fresh avenues for industrial growth and employment generation across the region.
