Health and Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Thursday said the Government is according special priority to the health and education sectors to ensure quality healthcare for every citizen and education for every child, while inaugurating a one-day Mega Health Camp in the remote D.H. Pora area of Kulgam district.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the camp at KB Pora, Itoo said the Government is committed to making quality healthcare accessible to all while simultaneously strengthening educational infrastructure to empower future generations. The Mega Health Camp was jointly organised by SKIMS Soura, the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir and the Chief Medical Officer, Kulgam, in collaboration with Bal Raksha Bharat (Save the Children), bringing specialist healthcare services directly to residents of a remote and underserved area.
During her visit, the Minister laid the foundation stone for a new Primary School at Darngbal, D.H. Pora, and another for additional classrooms at Middle School Jabal, D.H. Pora, initiatives aimed at enhancing educational infrastructure and improving learning facilities for students in the area.
Addressing the gathering, Itoo urged residents to make full use of the free healthcare services being offered at the camp, noting that a team of specialist doctors from SKIMS Soura had been deployed to deliver quality medical care to women, children, senior citizens and other residents of remote areas. She also announced that medicines would be provided free of cost to all beneficiaries.
Specialist doctors at the camp examined patients and provided consultations, diagnostic services and treatment for a wide range of ailments, while free medicines were distributed among beneficiaries throughout the day. The Minister reiterated that the Government remains committed to strengthening both healthcare delivery and educational infrastructure across rural areas to improve the overall quality of life for residents.
The programme saw participation from senior doctors of SKIMS Soura, the Deputy Director of Health Services Kashmir, the Chief Medical Officer of Kulgam, and other senior officers and officials. The Mega Health Camp witnessed a large turnout of local residents, underscoring the growing demand for accessible healthcare services in Kashmir’s rural and far-flung areas.
