Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb on Friday launched an online community hall booking portal to streamline reservations and strengthen digital public service delivery for residents seeking to book municipal community halls across the city.
The portal, inaugurated at the SMC headquarters in Karan Nagar, provides a digital platform for the booking and management of SMC community halls, replacing the earlier manual process with a streamlined online system. The initiative is intended to simplify the booking process, reduce manual procedures and improve transparency, accountability and operational efficiency in the allocation of municipal facilities.
Speaking at the launch, Haseeb said the portal reflects the corporation’s commitment to using technology to improve governance and deliver efficient, citizen-centric municipal services. He said digital platforms are essential for building a responsive, transparent and accountable urban administration, adding that the move is part of a broader effort within the corporation to shift routine civic services online and reduce dependence on physical visits to municipal offices.
The Commissioner directed officials to ensure the effective implementation, smooth operation and regular monitoring of the portal following its launch. He also called for public awareness campaigns to help residents familiarise themselves with the online booking facility and encouraged departments to actively promote the new system among ward-level offices and community groups.
Senior SMC officials, including the joint commissioners, secretary, informatics officer and other officers, attended the inauguration at the corporation’s headquarters. Officials said the online portal is expected to particularly benefit residents seeking to book halls for weddings, community events and other social functions, cutting down on the time and effort previously required for manual bookings and approvals.
