Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha on Friday paid tributes to Nobel Laureate Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on his Punyatithi, remembering the poet, thinker and educationist for his enduring contributions to literature, education and social thought.
In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor described Tagore as a progressive thinker and educationist whose profound wisdom and immortal creations continue to inspire humanity with the ideals of peace, harmony and universal brotherhood across the globe. He said Tagore’s timeless works remain deeply relevant even today, offering guidance to generations navigating questions of identity, culture and human values.
The Lieutenant Governor highlighted Tagore’s enduring contribution to literature, education and social thought, stating that his legacy continues to guide generations worldwide through his writings, philosophy and pioneering approach to education. He noted that Tagore’s vision extended well beyond literature, shaping ideas around holistic education, cultural exchange and the pursuit of universal human values that remain relevant to contemporary discourse.
Tagore, the first non-European to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, remains one of the most influential literary and intellectual figures to have emerged from the Indian subcontinent, with his works continuing to be studied, translated and celebrated across the world. His contributions spanned poetry, music, painting and educational philosophy, most notably reflected in his founding of Visva-Bharati University at Santiniketan.
The Lieutenant Governor’s tribute forms part of a wider set of remembrances observed across the country on Tagore’s death anniversary, with cultural and educational institutions organising commemorative programmes to mark the occasion and reflect on his lasting influence on Indian and global thought.
