Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha addressed the convocation ceremony of the ninth batch and the induction ceremony of the tenth batch of the Indian Institute of Democratic Leadership (IIDL), Mumbai, on Saturday, using the occasion to underscore the values he believes should define India’s next generation of political leadership.
Speaking to the graduating and incoming batches of young leaders, Sinha placed particular emphasis on ethics, humility and public service as the foundational qualities of effective leadership. He framed these values not as abstract ideals but as practical requirements for anyone stepping into a role of public responsibility, whether in elected office, public administration or civic organisations.
Taking to the social media platform X shortly after his address, the Lieutenant Governor summarised his message succinctly, saying he had urged young leaders to embrace ethics, humility and public service, and that the future of India rests on visionary, responsible young leadership. The statement captured the core thrust of an address that, according to those present, ranged across themes of constitutional values, institutional trust and the responsibilities that come with democratic representation.
The IIDL, an initiative of the Mumbai based Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, has for years positioned itself as a training ground for aspiring political and civic leaders from across the country, offering a structured programme aimed at equipping participants with the skills needed for careers in politics, governance and public affairs. Saturday’s ceremony marked the completion of one cohort’s journey through the programme even as a new batch prepared to begin theirs, a transition Sinha’s remarks were framed around.
The Lieutenant Governor’s participation in the event continues a pattern of frequent engagement with leadership and youth focused platforms outside Jammu and Kashmir, reflecting his broader emphasis on youth empowerment and civic training as tools for long term nation building. His remarks at IIDL align closely with themes he has repeatedly raised in Jammu and Kashmir itself, where his administration has focused heavily on grassroots democratic institutions, panchayat empowerment and youth participation in governance since 2020.
