Srinagar Traffic Police has rolled out a detailed advisory ahead of a large Tiranga Rally scheduled for August 12, when Boulevard Road is set to see restricted movement for five hours as VIPs, dignitaries and citizens converge on the route from SKICC to Botanical Garden.
According to the advisory, vehicular movement on Boulevard Road between Lalit Ghat and Kralsangri will remain closed from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM on the day of the rally. The restriction is aimed at ensuring a smooth and secure passage for participants while minimising disruption for commuters who rely on this stretch daily.
To ease the burden on motorists, Traffic Police has laid out a set of alternate routes based on origin and destination. Those travelling toward Nishat, Shalimar and Harwan have been asked to take the Dalgate, Rainawari, Hazratbal route instead of the Boulevard axis. Commuters moving in the opposite direction, from Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat and nearby areas toward Lal Chowk, have been directed to use the Foreshore, Hazratbal route rather than passing via Nishat and Boulevard Road. Similarly, residents of Gulab Bagh, Zakoora, Naseembagh and Habbak heading to Lal Chowk have been advised to take the Habak Dargah, Khanyar route instead of Foreshore Road.
Parking arrangements have also been finalised for the day. Rally participants can use the designated facilities at Barista near Lalit Ghat and Makai Point toward Kralsangri, while official vehicles will be accommodated at the Botanical Garden itself. The advisory explicitly warns that any vehicle parked outside these designated zones will be towed, and it urges the public to plan ahead and avoid roadside parking altogether on the affected stretch.
Emergency services have been given a clear exemption, with ambulances, fire tenders and other emergency vehicles permitted to take the shortest available route regardless of the restrictions in place. For any assistance or clarification on the day, commuters have been asked to reach out to the Traffic Police Control Room at 103.
With Independence Day preparations gathering pace across the city, authorities have appealed for public cooperation, acknowledging that some inconvenience is likely but necessary to ensure the rally passes off safely and in an organised manner.
