The Tricolour was hoisted at an altitude of around 14,000 feet in Gulmarg on Thursday, as youth and local stakeholders joined the ongoing Har Ghar Tiranga campaign ahead of Independence Day. The high-altitude flag-hoisting added a striking visual dimension to the campaign’s push across Jammu and Kashmir this year, carried out against the backdrop of Gulmarg’s snow-draped peaks.
Local youth and community members took an active role in the initiative, carrying the national flag to the high-altitude location and raising it as part of celebrations meant to build patriotic sentiment in the run-up to August 15. Organisers said the participation reflected the enthusiasm with which the campaign has been embraced in the Baramulla district this year, extending the Tiranga movement beyond homes and public buildings to some of the region’s most remote and physically demanding terrain.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, S.F. Hamid, said the involvement of young people and local stakeholders in the initiative reflected the deep patriotic spirit present across the district. He expressed hope that the same energy and enthusiasm shown in the campaign would be channelled going forward into the district’s broader development goals, framing the exercise as more than a symbolic gesture.
The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, now a recurring feature of India’s Independence Day calendar, encourages citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes and in public spaces as an expression of national pride. Its extension this year to a high-altitude tourist destination like Gulmarg lends the campaign added visibility, tying the patriotic messaging to one of Kashmir’s most recognisable landscapes.
Gulmarg, known primarily as a ski resort and summer tourist draw, has increasingly featured in official events tied to national occasions, with authorities using the location’s scenic profile to amplify participation and public engagement. With celebrations still building toward August 15, officials in Baramulla indicated that further activities tied to the Tiranga campaign are planned across the district, continuing the effort to weave patriotic observance into both community life and the region’s tourism identity.
