Srinagar, Aug 13: Water sports athletes on Thursday organised a Tiranga rally at Pokribal Lake in Srinagar, carrying the national flag across the waters as part of Independence Day celebrations.

Led by water sports coach Bilquis Mir, the athletes paddled through the lake with the Tricolour, creating a vibrant display of patriotism ahead of August 15 and the country’s 80th Independence Day.

Speaking during the event, Mir said the Tricolour has a special significance for athletes, representing both national pride and unity.

“The Tricolour is our pride, and it unites us as athletes. Whenever an athlete or champion competes or wins, the most important thing is that our Tricolour is raised for the country,” she said.

The rally brought together local water sports athletes in a distinctive celebration that combined sporting enthusiasm with the spirit of Independence Day.

The event also highlighted the growing participation of young athletes from Jammu and Kashmir in water sports and their efforts to represent the region on wider national and international platforms.

With the national flag fluttering over the waters of Pokribal Lake, the athletes delivered a spirited tribute to the country while showcasing the unique connection between sports, patriotism and community participation.
