The Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has directed the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, to file a fresh affidavit detailing any encroachments on public streets, parks and other public places by religious institutions.

The court noted that an earlier report listed mosques, temples, churches and gurdwaras constructed on State, Kahcharai and Shamilat Deh land, but did not clearly specify encroachments on public spaces or steps taken to prevent further violations.

The administration has been given six weeks to submit the detailed report. The matter will be heard next on October 12.

Meanwhile, the court noted that Ladakh’s compliance report found no such encroachments on public streets, parks or other public places.
