As part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, the 132 Battalion CRPF, in collaboration with Secure Path, a civil society organisation, and Shining Star Public High School, organised a one day programme on drug awareness and prevention at the Old Court Complex on Court Road, Lal Chowk, Srinagar on Saturday. The event was held as part of the third phase of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, with the objective of creating awareness among youth and the general public about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encouraging them to contribute toward building a drug free society.
Around 200 participants, including school students, teachers, civilians and others, took part in the programme, reflecting broad community engagement with the initiative. A pledge against drug abuse was administered to all participants during the event, reinforcing the collective commitment to the anti drug campaign. Following the programme, a drug awareness rally was organised from Old Sardar Court to Clock Tower in Lal Chowk, with participants carrying awareness messages and raising slogans advocating a drug free society as they moved through the area, spreading the message of Nasha Mukt Bharat among the wider public. Pamphlets containing drug awareness material were also distributed to local residents along the rally route.
During the event, motivational and awareness speeches were delivered by Chief Guest Dr. Deep Shekhar Mohan, Chief Medical Officer, Senior Grade, of 132 Battalion CRPF, alongside Resource Person Er. Mubashir Jan, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, and S. Umar Bhat, Executive Director of Secure Path. The speakers focused on the harmful physical, psychological and social effects of drug abuse, and urged young people and the broader community to remain vigilant against substance misuse while supporting peers and family members who may be at risk.
Certificates of participation were distributed to attendees in recognition of their involvement in the awareness programme, and refreshments were provided to all participants at the close of the event. The initiative forms part of a wider, nationwide push under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan to curb drug abuse through sustained community outreach, particularly targeting educational institutions and public spaces frequented by young people. Saturday’s programme at Lal Chowk underscored the continued collaboration between security forces, civil society organisations and educational institutions in Srinagar to address drug abuse through awareness rather than enforcement alone, with organisers expressing hope that similar initiatives would continue across the city’s other localities in the coming phases of the campaign.
