Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has congratulated Jammu and Kashmir para archer Sheetal Devi after she claimed gold in the Women’s Compound Individual event at Stage III of the 2026 Hyundai World Archery Para Series in Ahmedabad, a win that came in dramatic fashion against tough international competition.
Sheetal defeated Kazakhstan’s Aizada Seidan in a tense shoot-off after the two archers finished level at 144-144 at the end of regulation play, with Sheetal sealing victory by hitting a perfect 10 on the deciding shot, a finish that underscored the composure she has become known for on the biggest stages. She also added a bronze medal in the Compound Mixed Team event alongside Toman Kumar, with the pair defeating Iraq’s Sara Al-Hamid and Abbas Kadhim 157-145 in the bronze medal match.
Omar Abdullah said Sheetal’s achievement was a proud moment for the entire nation and wished her continued success in her future endeavours, a message that reflects the widespread admiration her career has drawn since she first emerged on the international para archery circuit. The 19-year-old, who hails from Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir, is the reigning world champion and currently holds the world number one ranking in women’s compound para archery, cementing her status as one of the region’s most celebrated sporting figures.
