Srinagar: Police have registered an FIR against Sher Ali Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir, a resident of Upper Barji, Harwan, for making and circulating a video containing corruption allegations against a Revenue Department official. The video subsequently went viral on social media platforms.

According to officials, an FIR bearing No. 0046, dated September 15, 2026, has been registered at Police Station Harwan under Section 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Officials said the accused has reportedly been absconding since the registration of the FIR.

The concerned Revenue official has also cautioned social media platforms and Facebook pages presenting themselves as news outlets against publishing or circulating the video without seeking his response or independently verifying the allegations made against him.

The official contended that the unrestricted circulation of an unverified and one-sided video could have serious implications for the dignity, reputation and personal safety of a government employee, particularly when allegations of corruption are presented before the public as established facts.
