Government Degree College Kulgam in south Kashmir organised a felicitation-cum-farewell ceremony for its outgoing National Cadet Corps cadets, bringing together the college leadership, faculty and students to mark another year of disciplined service and campus engagement by the unit.
The event, held on the college premises, was attended by Principal Prof. Mohammad Abbas Shah, members of the teaching faculty and cadets who have been part of the NCC wing over the past year. The programme was designed both to recognise the cadets’ contribution to college life and to formally bid farewell to those completing their tenure with the unit.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Shah commended the dedication shown by the cadets and the faculty members associated with the NCC unit, noting that the programme has consistently reinforced values of discipline, leadership and social responsibility among students at the college. He urged the cadets to carry these values forward into their academic and professional lives, describing the NCC experience as a foundation for responsible citizenship rather than a purely ceremonial college activity.
Faculty members who spoke at the event echoed similar sentiments, praising the cadets for their consistent participation in drills, camps and community service activities through the year. They extended their best wishes to the outgoing batch as they move on from active NCC engagement at the college.
The National Cadet Corps has long served as a platform in Jammu and Kashmir’s colleges for instilling discipline and a spirit of service among young students, with cadets regularly taking part in training camps, adventure activities and social outreach programmes coordinated by the NCC directorate. Institutions such as Government Degree College Kulgam have consistently encouraged participation in the corps as part of a wider push to build leadership qualities and civic responsibility among students in south Kashmir.
The felicitation ceremony concluded with the formal farewell to the outgoing cadets, alongside recognition of their participation and achievements through the year. College authorities said such programmes will continue to be held periodically to sustain student interest in the NCC and to honour those who have contributed meaningfully to the unit’s activities on campus.
