Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha celebrated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday with children in Srinagar on Wednesday and launched the month-long “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan,” a campaign built around welfare access, community support, youth participation and the broader spirit of public service across Jammu and Kashmir.
Sinha began the day at the “Palaash” and “Pareesha” children’s homes in Srinagar, where he distributed school bags, sports kits and sweets among the children and reviewed the residential facilities and arrangements in place for their care and well-being. The visit reflected a recurring emphasis by the Lieutenant Governor’s office on marking the Prime Minister’s birthday through direct engagement with vulnerable and underprivileged children rather than purely ceremonial events.
The Lieutenant Governor later visited the Children’s Hospital at Bemina, where he met young patients undergoing treatment and interacted with them, wishing them a speedy recovery and conveying his best wishes to their families. The hospital visit rounded out a day centred on outreach to children across both residential care and healthcare settings in Srinagar.
The centrepiece of the day’s engagements was the launch of the “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan,” which will run until October 17 as a month-long campaign promoting the spirit of selfless service. As part of the initiative, 12 programmes will be organised across Jammu and Kashmir, including school competitions built around the theme “Mere Sapno Ka Bharat,” felicitation ceremonies for Anganwadi and ASHA workers, tree plantation drives and a range of youth-oriented activities designed to encourage participation from younger citizens.
Running alongside the main campaign, the “Seva Setu Abhiyan” will see three-to-four-day camps organised at block and ward levels to help eligible and deprived beneficiaries register for various government welfare schemes, an effort officials say is intended to close gaps in scheme uptake among sections of the population that have historically struggled to access such benefits.
Speaking on the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to participate wholeheartedly in the service campaign. He highlighted a range of development and welfare initiatives undertaken across the country, including the expansion of national highways and airports, increased access to housing, sanitation and cooking gas, and the provision of free foodgrains under the Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. Sinha also pointed to the extension of railway connectivity to Kashmir as evidence of the significant development and transformation the Union Territory is witnessing, and called upon citizens to contribute to the campaign and strengthen the spirit of community service and social responsibility across Jammu and Kashmir.
