Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a telephone call from Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, during which the two leaders discussed measures to deepen bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional developments. The call came as the UAE President conveyed warm greetings to the Prime Minister on the occasion of his birthday, an exchange that reflected the personal rapport the two leaders have built over successive high level engagements between New Delhi and Abu Dhabi.
During the conversation, the leaders discussed new measures aimed at further strengthening the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, a framework that has steadily expanded in scope since it was first established. Areas of focus included energy, defence, technology, investment and health, sectors that have become central pillars of the bilateral relationship as both countries look to diversify economic ties and deepen strategic coordination in a rapidly shifting regional and global order.
Sheikh Mohamed also congratulated Prime Minister Modi on India’s successful presidency of BRICS, a grouping that has taken on greater geopolitical weight as it has expanded its membership in recent years. In turn, the Prime Minister appreciated the UAE’s engagement with the presidency, specifically noting the participation of Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed in the BRICS Summit and acknowledging the UAE’s broader cooperation in helping deliver substantive outcomes during India’s term at the helm of the grouping.
The two leaders also exchanged views on developments across West Asia, a region where both India and the UAE maintain significant economic and strategic interests. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to continued cooperation and coordination in efforts aimed at promoting regional peace, security and stability, language that reflects the sensitivity both governments continue to attach to the volatile security situation across the wider Gulf and Red Sea region.
The India-UAE relationship has grown substantially over the past decade, anchored by trade, energy cooperation and a large Indian expatriate community in the Emirates. Friday’s call adds to a pattern of regular high level contact between the two leaderships, reinforcing a partnership that both sides have repeatedly described as a cornerstone of their respective foreign policy priorities in the Gulf and beyond.
