Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly selected government employees at the 20th edition of the Rozgar Mela on Friday, telling the fresh recruits that the milestone represented not just personal achievement but a tribute to the sacrifices of their families. Addressing the appointees via video conferencing, the Prime Minister welcomed them into government service as the country continues its push toward becoming a developed nation by 2047, emphasising the pivotal role young officials would play in driving that agenda forward through every administrative decision they make.
Reflecting on the recently concluded BRICS Summit, the Prime Minister said the government’s strategy extended cooperation well beyond traditional government-to-government engagement, pointing to platforms such as BRICS Connect and the BRICS MSME Cooperation Portal as mechanisms designed to draw entrepreneurs, farmers, women and youth directly into global partnerships. He also highlighted Free Trade Agreements with roughly 40 countries, saying these were opening new career possibilities for India’s youth by forging fresh markets and partnerships for domestic entrepreneurs.
On skilling, the Prime Minister listed a cluster of initiatives, including the National Education Policy, the Skill India Mission and the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, along with the PM-SETU scheme, which is modernising a thousand government ITIs with an investment of Rs 60,000 crore alongside industry participation. He also celebrated India’s position as the world’s third largest startup hub, noting that nearly half of recognised startups now originate from tier-two and tier-three cities, a trend he credited to young entrepreneurs from smaller towns building companies and generating employment for their peers.
The Prime Minister detailed the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana, a Rs 1 lakh crore initiative aimed at bringing two crore youth into the formal workforce for the first time, offering incentives of up to Rs 15,000 for first-time employees while rewarding employers who create new jobs. He linked this employment push to the country’s broader economic health, citing a 7.8 percent growth rate and a 12 percent surge in first-quarter investment, even as rating agencies upgrade the nation’s economic outlook amid global uncertainty.
Turning directly to the new recruits, the Prime Minister urged them to treat every file and administrative decision as an opportunity to clear hurdles for the country’s youth, drawing on his own poetic imagery of claiming the sun, sea, boat and sailor to conquer the waves. He asked them to draw on their personal journeys through the system, using their new authority with empathy to dismantle the very bureaucratic obstacles they themselves once faced. He also pointed to the Mission Karmayogi framework and its Karmayogi Prarambh module, which will help the new entrants navigate government systems alongside 1.7 crore employees already using the iGOT platform.
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister reminded the recruits that the true strength of any government rests on public trust, and that their daily work, whether processing pensions, scholarships or farmer subsidies, would directly shape citizens’ everyday experience with the state. Invoking the philosophy of Nagrik Devo Bhava, or the citizen is divine, he called on the new appointees to treat citizen service as national service, expressing confidence that they would discharge their duties with dedication across departments.
