The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Kulgam unit organised a blood donation camp at District Hospital Kulgam, part of a coordinated month-long social service initiative being carried out by the party across all twenty districts of Jammu and Kashmir under its Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. The camp drew participation from party workers and local volunteers who turned up in significant numbers to donate blood, reflecting the grassroots mobilisation the party has built around the campaign in south Kashmir.
The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan has emerged as one of the BJP’s flagship outreach exercises in Jammu and Kashmir this year, designed to position the party as engaged in direct, apolitical community welfare work at a time when healthcare access and blood bank shortages remain persistent concerns in several districts of the Union Territory. District hospitals across Kashmir, including the one in Kulgam, routinely report seasonal shortfalls in blood stocks, particularly during periods of heightened demand from trauma cases, surgical procedures and chronic illness management, making civil society and political party-led donation drives an important supplementary source for local blood banks.
Party functionaries overseeing the Kulgam camp said the exercise was conceived not merely as a one-off donation event but as part of a sustained effort to embed the party’s cadre in everyday community needs. Similar camps have been rolled out in parallel across Jammu, Baramulla, Anantnag, Pulwama and other districts through the course of the Abhiyan, with local units tasked with coordinating directly with district hospital administrations to ensure donated units are properly screened, stored and channelled into the regional blood supply chain.
Health officials in Kulgam welcomed the initiative, noting that voluntary donation drives conducted by political and civil society organisations have historically helped bridge gaps between demand and available stock, particularly in districts where dedicated blood bank infrastructure remains limited compared to Srinagar’s tertiary care institutions. The hospital administration is understood to have facilitated medical screening and collection logistics for the donors who turned up at the camp.
The Kulgam event is expected to be followed by further camps in the district as the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan continues through the remainder of the month, with party leaders indicating that similar health and welfare-linked outreach activities, including medical camps and awareness drives, are likely to follow as the campaign progresses across the Union Territory’s twenty districts.
