The Indian Premier League (IPL) has emerged as one of the biggest and most valued sports leagues worldwide. Per a report shared by the US-based investment bank Houlihan Lokey, the IPL’s overall worth has surged to an estimated $20.6bn.
It is home to some of the biggest names in sport and is precisely the reason why fans globally keep a tab on the live cricket score across several platforms to follow every game of the marquee tournament.
As of 2026, the lucrative tournament has witnessed 19 seasons and eight different champions: Mumbai Indians: 5 titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020), Chennai Super Kings: 5 titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, 2023), Kolkata Knight Riders: 3 titles (2012, 2014, 2024), Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 2 titles (2025, 2026), Rajasthan Royals: 1 title (2008), Deccan Chargers: 1 title (2009), Sunrisers Hyderabad: 1 title (2016) and Gujarat Titans: 1 title (2022).
The tournament enthrals fans with breathtaking action, and every season witnesses a host of records settle to dust. However, there are three IPL records that are likely to stand the test of time and might never be broken. Let’s look at them one by one:
1. Best bowling figures on IPL debut | Alzarri Joseph 6/12
Alzarri Joseph’s 6/12 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) remains the best bowling figures by a player on IPL debut as his name dominated the cricket news the following morning. Joseph’s terrific spell came in the 19th match of IPL 2019 when he ripped SRH’s batting order to shreds, helping Mumbai Indians (MI) register a 40-run win. He was adjudged the Player of the Match (POTM).
Interestingly, Joseph was roped in by MI as an injury replacement for New Zealand’s Adam Milne for INR 75 lakhs.
2. Highest individual score in an IPL match | Chris Gayle 175*
Several batters have struck hundreds in the IPL, but nobody has managed to breach the 175-run mark achieved by Chris Gayle. Gayle struck a 66-ball 175* in match No. 31 of IPL 2013 while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against Pune Warriors at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The West Indian smacked 17 sixes and 13 fours at a strike rate of 265.15. It remains the highest individual score in an IPL innings.
3. Most runs by a player in a single IPL season | Virat Kohli 973 Runs
IPL 2016 will always hold a special place in the memory bank of every Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fan. While they stumbled at the final hurdle, losing to SRH by eight runs in the final, they were led phenomenally well by their captain Virat Kohli.
Virat aggregated 973 runs in 16 games at an unbelievable average of 81.08 and a strike rate of 152.03. He smashed four centuries and seven half-centuries, carrying the entire team on his shoulders to the final. Virat’s tally of 973 remains the benchmark for batters in the competition.
