Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Khursheed Ahmad Misgar of Malarta in Nowhatta, Srinagar, and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

The Mirwaiz visited the family at their residence in the old city and shared in their grief. He expressed his sympathies and solidarity with the deceased’s brothers, Muzaffar Ahmad Misgar, Manzoor Ahmad Misgar, Muneer Ahmad Misgar, Imtiyaz Ahmad Misgar and Farooq Ahmad Mir, as well as other members of the family, who are mourning the loss of a loved one.

During the visit, the Mirwaiz offered Fatiha for the departed soul and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant Khursheed Ahmad Misgar the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous. He also prayed that the Almighty bestow Sabr-e-Jameel, or graceful patience, upon the bereaved family so that they may bear the loss with fortitude.

Visits of condolence hold a special place in the social life of Kashmir, particularly in the neighbourhoods of the old city, where families, neighbours and community leaders traditionally gather at the home of the bereaved to offer prayers and comfort. The presence of a religious figure of the Mirwaiz’s stature at such a gathering is regarded as a source of solace, and the gesture was received by the family as a mark of solidarity at a difficult hour.

Malarta and the wider Nowhatta area are among the most closely knit localities of Srinagar, where bonds of kinship and neighbourliness run deep. Funeral prayers, mourning gatherings and the recitation of Fatiha remain an integral part of how the community stands by those who have lost a family member, and local residents were seen visiting the family throughout the day to pay their respects.

The Mirwaiz has long made it a practice to visit grieving households and to take part in the collective mourning of the community, a tradition that reflects the values of compassion, humility and mutual support in Kashmiri society. The family, in turn, thanked the Mirwaiz for taking the time to visit them and for his prayers for the departed soul.

Residents of the area also joined in praying for the deceased, remembering Khursheed Ahmad Misgar as a respected member of the neighbourhood. May Allah grant the departed soul eternal peace and give strength to his brothers and the entire family to endure this loss.
