Jammu and Kashmir is making its first organised push to attract Global Capability Centres (GCCs). The J&K GCC Summit 2026 opens today at the Mandapam, IIM Jammu. It is hosted by the institute with the UT government, and NASSCOM is the knowledge partner.
Organisers expect more than 300 delegates, about 45 companies and over 55 industry leaders. Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, NASSCOM President Rajesh Nambiar and NIIT Chairman Rajendra Singh Pawar are among the named participants. The theme is “Unlocking J&K’s GCC Potential for Building Growth Ecosystem & Catalyzing Investment.”
GCCs are no longer just back-office units. They now handle product engineering, analytics, AI and R&D, and they are increasingly setting up in Tier-II and Tier-III cities. IIM Jammu Director Prof. B. S. Sahay stressed that this is not an investment summit. He described it as an awareness and engagement exercise, with business meetings alongside the sessions. He said the region must first build the ecosystem and the skilled manpower.
Labour and Employment Secretary Kumar Rajeev Ranjan said the government cannot be the only source of jobs. He argued that GCCs could create white-collar openings in finance, HR, technology and analytics, with spillover benefits for local services.
Six panels over two days will cover policy and incentives, models from other states, talent and an eventual roadmap. Organisers hope for MoUs and anchor commitments, though none are confirmed.
