HYDERABAD: Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani on Friday invited travellers from Hyderabad and across southern India to discover the varied tourism offerings of Jammu and Kashmir. He also called on fitness enthusiasts and professional runners from every part of the country to take part in the upcoming Kashmir Marathon, scheduled to be held in Srinagar on October 25.

Addressing the media at the Travel and Tourism Fair Hyderabad 2026, where Jammu and Kashmir is participating as the Partner State, Wani spoke of the region’s rich cultural heritage, striking landscapes and fast-growing adventure tourism opportunities. He stressed the need to deepen tourism linkages with the south and to encourage more visitors from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states to experience the Union Territory’s attractions.

Giving a special push to the marathon, the Advisor said the event offers a chance to position Kashmir as a destination for sports tourism while showing participants and visitors its scenic beauty and hospitality. For a region that has traditionally leaned on leisure and pilgrimage travel, a large running event draws a new kind of visitor and extends the tourism calendar beyond the usual peaks.

Wani also called for stronger strategic collaboration and closer liaison between the travel trade fraternities of Jammu and Kashmir and Hyderabad. Such ties, he said, would expand tourism opportunities, facilitate greater tourist inflows and build firmer regional partnerships.

The Department of Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir, is presenting the destination’s potential at the three-day fair with a clear aim: to strengthen its foothold in the southern Indian market and attract visitors for the coming winter and spring seasons. Its showcase centres on the Kashmir Marathon, alongside customised travel experiences for both seasons. Premium hospitality facilities, curated holiday packages and emerging destinations are being offered to encourage travellers to look beyond conventional circuits.

The fair was jointly inaugurated by Telangana Minister for Tourism Jupally Krishna Rao and Wani. Prominent representatives of the national travel and tourism industry were present at the ceremony.

A high-level delegation from Jammu and Kashmir, led by the Advisor, is representing the Union Territory at the fair. It is engaging with tourism stakeholders and travel industry representatives to widen market outreach and explore avenues for collaboration, as the region seeks to convert interest from southern markets into bookings for the months ahead.
