American singer Mary Millben has triggered a political controversy by alleging that “select donors” from the United States are funding protests in India through the newly formed satirical outfit Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).

In a post on X, Millben alleged that certain US-based donors target conservative leaders, recruit US-educated individuals from other countries, radicalise them and finance activities intended to create unrest.

“These select donors have a pattern globally,” she claimed, arguing that such activities could disrupt governance and development even when the alleged plans fail.

Her remarks come amid protests by CJP and opposition parties demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), citing alleged electoral roll tampering and concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

Without naming CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke directly, Millben also urged Indian citizens to speak out against what she described as foreign interference. She called on young Indians to organise a peaceful counter-movement in defence of democracy and freedom.

“It is time for a new voice in India,” she said, appealing to young people to oppose the party’s activities peacefully.

Millben, known for her patriotic performances, came into the spotlight during India’s 75th Independence Day celebrations in 2022. In 2023, she performed India’s national anthem during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States.
