Srinagar: Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir on Monday organised a pledge taking ceremony at its headquarters in Srinagar as part of the nationwide observance of Vigilance Awareness Week 2026, with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Crime J&K, Sarah Rizvi, IPS, administering the Integrity Pledge to officers and officials.

The ceremony saw personnel of the premier investigating agency reaffirm their commitment to honesty, integrity and ethical conduct in the discharge of their duties. The programme underscored the importance of collective effort in promoting transparency, strengthening accountability and building a corruption free society.

Vigilance Awareness Week is observed every year across the country under the aegis of the Central Vigilance Commission. Government departments, public sector bodies and institutions use the week to renew their resolve against corruption through pledges, awareness programmes and outreach activities. This year, the observance runs from October 26 to November 1.

For an agency such as the Crime Branch, the exercise carries particular weight. The wing investigates serious and sensitive offences, including complex economic crimes, financial irregularities and cases that demand impartiality and public confidence. The credibility of such investigations rests on the professional integrity of those who conduct them, and on a visible commitment to uphold the law without fear or favour.

Senior police leadership across Jammu and Kashmir has, in recent years, repeatedly emphasised the need for accountability within the force and for responsive, transparent policing. Integrity pledges are one part of that wider effort, intended to remind personnel that public trust is the most valuable asset any law enforcement agency possesses.

Officers who attended the ceremony joined the IGP in taking the pledge, resolving to perform their responsibilities with sincerity and to resist corrupt practices in every form. The pledge also encourages citizens to play their part by refusing to offer or accept bribes and by reporting instances of corruption to the appropriate authorities.

The Crime Branch headquarters in Srinagar functions as a key node of investigation in the Union Territory, handling cases that frequently involve large sums of public and private money. Strengthening ethical standards inside such an institution, observers say, supports not only internal discipline but also the confidence of complainants who approach it for justice.

Awareness activities are expected to continue through the week at various offices of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, reinforcing the message that integrity in public service is a daily obligation and not a ritual confined to a single week.
