Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq on Wednesday expressed deep grief over the demise of the wives of long-standing devotees of the Mirwaiz family, and visited the bereaved households in Srinagar to offer his condolences in person.
The deceased include the wives of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat of Rajouri Kadal, the late Ali Mohammad Mir of Khawaja Bazar, and the late Sheikh Abdul Aziz of Narwara, Eidgah. All three families have had a close association with the Mirwaiz family for years.
The Mirwaiz visited the families at Rajouri Kadal and Khawaja Bazar, where he offered Fatiha for the departed souls. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, Mohammad Ashraf Bhat and Raees Ahmad Bhat, and to Abdul Rashid Mir. He also expressed sympathy to Sheikh Farooq Ahmad, Sheikh Nisar Ahmad and Sheikh Rafiq Ahmad, the sons of the late Sheikh Abdul Aziz.
Recalling the longstanding association of these families with the Mirwaiz institution, he prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the departed souls Jannat-ul-Firdous and to bestow patience and strength upon the bereaved families.
Personal visits of this kind are an important part of Kashmir’s social tradition. Offering Fatiha at the home of the deceased and sitting with the family is regarded as a duty of the community, and it carries added meaning when it comes from a religious leader whose family has long been connected with the households concerned. The old city of Srinagar, where Rajouri Kadal and Khawaja Bazar are located, has historically been the centre of the Mirwaiz’s religious and social engagement, and devotees there have maintained ties with the family across generations.
The visit follows condolence messages the Mirwaiz had issued only a day earlier on the passing of Fatima Ali Mir, wife of the late Ali Mohammad Mir of Khawaja Bazar, and of Mohammad Anwar Rather of Tral. His presence in person on Wednesday allowed him to share the grief of the families directly and to offer the consolation that a message alone cannot provide.
For the families, such gestures offer comfort at a difficult time. Relatives, neighbours and well-wishers have been calling on the bereaved households to offer prayers and sympathy, in keeping with custom. Onlykashmir.in joins in conveying condolences to all the families, and prays that the departed are granted peace and that those left behind find the strength to bear their loss with patience.
