Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq will deliver a sermon at Masjid Mehboob-ul-Alam (RA) in Zoonimar, Srinagar, on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Inshallah, as part of a religious congregation titled Majlis Tawba Wa Istaghfar.
The announcement was made by Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid, Srinagar, which has invited devotees and members of the public to take part in the gathering. The programme is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM and will continue until the Asr prayers, giving attendees an extended window for reflection and worship.
The Majlis Tawba Wa Istaghfar is envisaged as an occasion for repentance, supplication and spiritual reflection. Gatherings of this nature hold a special place in the religious life of the Valley, where the faithful regularly assemble to seek forgiveness, renew their devotion and draw inspiration from the guidance of respected religious scholars. The organisers have said the programme is intended to give people an opportunity to benefit directly from the religious counsel of the Mirwaiz.
Dr Umar Farooq serves as the Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, the chief cleric of the Valley, and is the head of the Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid, the body that oversees the historic Jama Masjid in Srinagar’s old city. His sermons draw large congregations and are followed closely across Kashmir for their religious and social messaging. Masjid Mehboob-ul-Alam in Zoonimar is a well known place of worship in the area, and the gathering is expected to draw worshippers from neighbouring localities and beyond.
The concept of Tawba, or sincere repentance, and Istaghfar, the seeking of forgiveness, lies at the heart of Islamic spiritual practice. Such majalis are typically marked by recitation, sermons and collective prayer, and they emphasise personal accountability, humility and moral renewal. In a period when communities are often preoccupied with worldly pressures, religious organisers say these gatherings offer a moment of calm and introspection.
Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid, Srinagar has urged devotees and the general public to attend and participate in the spiritual gathering. Attendees are advised to arrive on time so that they can take their places before the programme begins at 3:00 PM and remain until the conclusion of the Asr prayers. The Anjuman has expressed hope that the congregation will be conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, reflecting the spirit of devotion that the occasion represents.
