Republic Day is a prominent festival celebrated every year to commemorate the day when the constitution of India officially came into force on January 26, 1950.

The lieutenant governor's advisor Baseer Khan presided over the function. Contingents of police and other security forces took part in the parade after Khan was given the guard of honour. A brief cultural programme was held after the parade to mark the occasion.
