In an exclusive interview with our special reporter Rameez Makhdoomi, Aga Syed Mehmood Mosavi, a key leader of the National Conference and candidate for the Budgam Assembly by-election, shed light on the constituency’s issues and his vision for development.

Regarding the difference in the elections, he said, “Today’s election is more difficult in every respect. When I contested the elections from Beerwah in 1996, the competition was easy. Today, the competition is tough and the enthusiasm of the people in voting has also increased.”

Regarding the lack of development in Budgam, he said, “Despite being close to Srinagar, Budgam lags behind in many developmental aspects because the people here are shy and do not raise their voices much for their demands.”

On the question of governance under the Union Territory, he said, “I am determined to take the Budgam assembly constituency to a new era of development. While the restoration of Article 370 is important for the party, day-to-day issues like road repair and expansion will be my top priority.”

Regarding key local issues, he said, “Water scarcity, especially polluted water, is the biggest problem and brick kilns have caused air, land and water pollution. Both of these issues will be top priorities for me.”

Regarding the Shia and Sunni unity, Agha Syed Mahmood said, “Our family has historically played a role in maintaining unity. Now we have risen above sectarian politics and unity is the key to the development of Budgam.”

He gave a message to the people: “Stay united. Ask your representatives without fear. Together we will make Budgam great again.”
