Thimphu: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that India-Bhutan relations are based on shared values of passion, peace and development.
According to Indian Ambassador to Bhutan Sandeep Arya, Modi said during his meeting with King Jigme Khyser Namgyel Wangchuck that the partnership between the two countries is based on trust and development.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of promoting connectivity, spiritual and religious ties related to Buddhism. According to the ambassador, the Bhutanese King expressed happiness over the presence of sacred Buddhist relics brought from India.
Sandeep Arya said that cooperation in the energy sector was also an important aspect of the talks. The two leaders recalled that the foundation of the hydropower partnership was laid during the reign of the fourth King of Bhutan in the 1970s.
During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed for cooperation in the field of renewable energy, which includes solar, wind, biomass, green hydrogen and energy storage projects.
He further said that on this occasion, a credit line of Rs 4000 crore was also announced by India. On this occasion, the King of Bhutan offered special prayers for India, Prime Minister Modi and his vision and also expressed his best wishes for the victims of the Delhi blast.
