In a major development in Bangladesh’s historic politics, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman was sworn in as Prime Minister on Tuesday.
The ceremony marked the BNP’s return to power after two decades out of power.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the South Plaza building of the National Parliament, where he was administered the oath by Speaker Mohammad Shahabuddin.
The BNP’s return to power came after its landslide victory in the 13th national parliamentary elections, a major milestone for the party after two decades since it was last elected in 2001.
The new cabinet includes 25 ministers and 24 ministers of state and is being seen as a leadership restoration.
