Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday described the India-France relationship as “special” and said it is a strong force for global stability, especially at a time when the world is going through uncertainty. He held bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Raj Bhavan in Maharashtra. President Macron is on a three-day visit to India to attend the AI Summit 2026 in New Delhi.
Addressing a joint press conference in Mumbai, Prime Minister Modi said that today the world is going through a period of uncertainty and in such an environment, the India-France partnership is an important force for global stability. He described France as one of India’s oldest strategic partners.

President Emmanuel Macron said that the India-France relationship is a unique relationship based on trust, openness and high ambitions. He said that today we have decided to take this partnership to a higher level. We have complete trust in each other and in the last eight years, we have closely cooperated in various areas including the Indo-Pacific, artificial intelligence and clean energy.
He said that together with President Macron, the two countries have given unprecedented depth and energy to their relations. From Rafale aircraft to submarines, defense cooperation is expanding. Macron described India as a very reliable partner of France.

India and France announced the elevation of bilateral relations to a “Special Global Strategic Partnership”. Prime Minister Modi and President Macron announced 21 important decisions including defense, technology and innovation, startups, key minerals, advanced materials, health and skills.
He said that India and France will set up the final assembly line of the H125 light utility helicopter through Tata Airbus. India will manufacture the world’s only helicopter that can fly to the height of Mount Everest and it will be exported worldwide.
