Data released on the occasion of World Health Day has highlighted a growing silent health crisis in Jammu and Kashmir, where diabetes, cancer and heart diseases are continuously increasing.
According to health experts, these non-communicable diseases are largely the result of unhealthy lifestyle, smoking, poor dietary habits, mental stress, lack of physical activity and certain environmental hazards. According to the data, heart diseases are increasing rapidly in the region, while diabetes has spread to an alarming extent, especially in urban areas.
Similarly, cancer cases are also increasing continuously, especially in Kashmir division, the number of patients with stomach, colon and brain cancer is a cause of concern for experts. Some studies have also linked the prolonged use of pesticides to this increase.
Experts have warned that if timely screening, awareness campaigns and positive changes in lifestyle are not brought about, this situation could turn into a major public health crisis in the coming years.
