New Delhi/Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the Lok Sabha, termed reservation for women as the need of the hour and said that it should be seen as a collective interest rather than linking it to any political party.
He appealed to all political parties to support this important law and not to sacrifice it for politics. The Prime Minister said that the women of the country are watching our intention regarding the constitutional amendments carefully and they will never forgive any malice.
Participating in the debate on the bills related to women’s reservation, delimitation and increase in Lok Sabha seats, Modi said that these steps will prove to be a turning point in the parliamentary history of the country. He assured that no state or region will be discriminated against in the delimitation process and the distribution of seats will remain proportionate.
He added that giving representation to half of the population cannot be delayed any longer and women should have got reservation 25 to 30 years ago.
