LPU players emerge as Champions at Wushu Championship, Manipur University Runner Up

Srinagar, May 9: The six-day All India Inter University Wushu Championship (Men & Women) concluded at SKISC Srinagar, marking a major sporting milestone for the University of Kashmir.

Organized by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, University of Kashmir under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, the championship witnessed participation from 195 universities and over 1500 athletes from across the country, making it one of the largest inter university Wushu events in India.

The championship served as a key platform for emerging athletes and also acted as a preparatory stage for the upcoming World University Games scheduled in Brazil this June.

Registrar University of Kashmir Prof. Naseer Iqbal, who was the Chief Guest at the concluding ceremony, said the successful hosting of the championship reflected the growing sporting profile of Jammu & Kashmir and highlighted the spirit of unity through sports.

He appreciated the efforts of the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports for the smooth conduct of the event.

Among those present were Prof. Showkat Ahmad Shah, Prof. Pervez Ahmad, Prof. Waseem Bari, AIU Observer Dr. Brij Kishore, Sheikh Asif, coaches, officers and officials of DPE&S.

Organizing Secretary and Coordinator DPE&S Dr. Surjeet Singh presented the championship report and thanked the university administration, participating institutions, Jammu and Kashmir Police, athletes and stakeholders for their support.

Lovely Professional University, Phagwara emerged as the Overall Champions, while University of Manipur secured the Runners Up Trophy.

The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Nadeem Ahmad Dar, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Basharat Ali.
