Kolkata: In a historic political shift, the Bharatiya Janata Party formed its first-ever government in West Bengal as Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the Chief Minister at a grand ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Cabinet ministers, and senior BJP leaders.

The swearing-in ceremony, held in Kolkata, witnessed massive public participation and was projected by BJP leaders as the beginning of a “double engine government” in the state. Adhikari, dressed in traditional Bengali attire, took oath in Bangla and vowed to work for development, employment generation, women empowerment, and improved law and order.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the new Chief Minister and said the people of Bengal had voted for change, development, and corruption-free governance. Modi described the BJP victory as a “historic mandate” and assured full support from the Centre for Bengal’s progress.

BJP promises “New Bengal”

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said his government would focus on infrastructure, industrial investment, farmers’ welfare, and youth employment. He accused the previous regime of corruption and political violence and promised transparent governance.
