Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday highlighted significant progress in the Union Territory’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, citing over 235,000 awareness and outreach events held across J&K so far.

Speaking at an anti-drug rally in Baramulla, LG Sinha said that in the last 31 days alone, more than 44,000 OPD patients have received treatment, while nearly 700 drug smugglers and peddlers have been arrested and face stringent legal action.

The Lieutenant Governor emphasised a rehabilitation-first approach to those struggling with addiction. “Those consuming drugs are victims, not culprits. We must help them return to normal life with care and rehabilitation,” he said, urging the public to report any drug peddling activity or lapses in enforcement directly to authorities.

Stressing the urgency of the campaign, Sinha called on all sections of society — including religious scholars — to actively join the fight against the drug menace, describing it as a collective societal responsibility rather than a matter for law enforcement alone.
