In UAE Modi Reiterates support for safe passage through Strait of Hormuz

The two leaders welcomed the launch of the MAITRI Virtual Trade Corridor, which will help facilitate trade. Prime Minister Modi also invited President Al Nahyan to visit India soon.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after high-level talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, stressed the importance of safe and unhindered maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, saying it is essential for regional stability, global energy and food security. The Prime Minister also strongly condemned the recent attacks on the UAE.

The two countries signed several important agreements in the energy, defense, investment and technology sectors. These agreements include the UAE’s participation in India’s strategic petroleum reserves, long-term LPG supply, defense partnership, maritime security, cyber defense and information exchange. The UAE also announced an investment of US $ 5 billion in India.

India and the UAE also signed agreements on the establishment of a ship repair cluster in Vidinar, development of skills in the maritime sector and the establishment of an 8 exaflop supercomputing cluster. On this occasion, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed presented the Cerebras chip to Prime Minister Modi, which will strengthen India’s AI mission.

The UAE was the first leg of Prime Minister Modi’s five-nation tour, after which he left for the Netherlands.
