Focus on green technology, trade, innovation and global peace at Third India Nordic Summit
New Delhi, May 19: Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that India and the Nordic countries are set to enter a “new golden era” of partnership, with both sides expanding cooperation in trade, green technology, innovation, sustainability and global governance.
Addressing the joint press statement at the Third India Nordic Summit, Prime Minister Modi said the shared commitment to democracy, rule of law and multilateralism makes India and the Nordic nations “natural partners”.
He said bilateral trade between India and the Nordic countries has increased nearly fourfold over the last decade, while investments from Nordic nations into India have grown by around 200 percent.
Modi said India has implemented the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement with Norway, Iceland and other EFTA countries since October 2025. He also referred to the recently concluded India European Union Free Trade Agreement involving Denmark, Finland and Sweden.
The Prime Minister announced that India and the Nordic countries have agreed to establish a “Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership” aimed at strengthening cooperation in geothermal energy, blue economy, Arctic research, maritime sectors, sustainability, digital technology, cyber security, defence manufacturing and health technology.
He said India would combine its talent and scale with Nordic expertise to develop trusted global solutions and deepen cooperation among universities, laboratories and startup ecosystems.
On international issues, Modi said India and the Nordic nations support a rules based global order and called for peaceful resolution of conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia.
Reiterating a firm stand against terrorism, he said there can be “no compromise and no double standards” in dealing with terror.
Highlighting the spirit of cooperation, Modi referred to the word “Sambandh”, meaning connection and bond, saying it reflected the close partnership and shared values between India and the Nordic countries.
