Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) is set to organise ‘Meet the Eminent Writer’ featuring renowned writer, poet, translator, and researcher Dr. Satish Vimal on Monday, June 2, 2026.
The literary event will be held at the Radio Kashmir Auditorium, Srinagar, at 2:00 PM. Entry is open to all literature enthusiasts, students, and the public. JKAACL Secretary Harvinder Kour is overseeing the programme.
About Dr. Satish Vimal
A multilingual wordsmith from Buchoo village, Tral in Pulwama district, Dr. Satish Vimal is a prominent poet, broadcaster, art historian, and cultural crusader. Associated with All India Radio Srinagar, he is known for his insightful programmes on Kashmiri culture, Sufi thought, and history. 9345
Vimal writes in Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri, and English and has over 21 books to his credit, including poetry collections like Kaal Surya, Nishabd Cheekh Ke Shikhar Par, and Khoye Huye Prishth. His Hindi poetry book Khoye Huye Prishth has been translated into Persian, Urdu, Kashmiri, Punjabi, English, and French.
For his contribution to literature and culture, he has received several honours, including the National Humanitarian Literature Award 2021, the Central Hindi Directorate Award for Kaal Surya, and the Khillat-e-Balkhi Award 2025 for his research on Sufi-Rishi traditions.
Dr. Vimal began his literary journey in school, writing scripts and poems for local theatre. After stints at Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar, he joined All India Radio where his resonant voice and deep scholarship on Kashmir’s heritage earned him widespread acclaim. 9345
The JKAACL’s ‘Meet the Eminent Writer’ series aims to connect budding writers and students with established literary figures. Monday’s session will offer an opportunity to interact with Dr. Vimal on his literary journey, multilingual writings, and work in preserving Kashmir’s cultural legacy.
